Commission a Painting from Ivan Berryman
Many people are intimidated by the thought of approaching an artist to have something painted to their particular requirements, but it really couldn't be simpler. Here's a step-by-step guide to how it works. Initial contact can be made via the email link on this website. This will take you directly to me, Ivan Berryman, and I will respond personally as soon as I can, usually within 24 hours, either by email or by telephone, if you leave me your number. We will have a short conversation about the subject of the painting, the size, the time scale involved and the price. Between us, we should soon work out exactly what you require and what is involved and we should be able to make a decision whether to proceed to the next stage. As a rough guide, you can commission an original painting from £6,000, which covers you up to 40 x 30 inches, regardless of the complexity of the painting. There will be no increases or add-ons once we have agreed the final composition and VAT is not currently applicable. Shipping your finished painting to you within the United Kingdom is free. Having agreed the content and a general layout of what will become your picture, a deposit equal to 20% of the final fee will fall due which will, of course be deducted from the final invoice. This can be paid either by cheque, cash or bank transfer. I will then get to work on one or two pencil sketches or small colour roughs, based upon our discussions. These will be either posted to you, or emailed, depending upon your preference. We would then discuss these drawings and make any changes necessary. Maybe you won't like them at all, in which case they are scrapped and we'll try again with a completely different approach. These initial drawings are to establish exactly what you want to see in your finished painting and these are included in the price. Work now begins on the painting itself. I may, from time to time, send photographs of the painting as it progresses, but many customers prefer not to see their painting until it is finished and, hopefully, enjoy the reveal at the end. When the painting is complete, it will be professionally photographed and a copy sent to you with the final invoice. Alternatively, you are welcome to visit me at my studio to see the finished item and maybe even take it home with you - if the paint is dry! This is when the balance of the payment is due in full. Some customers opt for a stage-payment arrangement whereby they continue to make pre-agreed payments throughout the painting stage so that, upon completion, there may only be a small balance to pay. And that's it. It really is that simple. I would liaise with you throughout the concept, design and painting processes and you are free to contact me and monitor progress as you please. The important thing is that you get the painting you've always wanted with the minimum of fuss. Why not just get in touch and find out? Enquiring is free!
